Twitter adds new user suggestions using its Social Graph

Definitely a useful feature to help people finding interesting accounts to follow.

Amplifyd from blog.twitter.com
With more than a hundred million users on Twitter, there are sure to be at least dozens of accounts out there that will reflect your interests. The trouble is finding all of them
Today we’re beginning to roll out a simple, but powerful new feature to help address that — “Suggestions for You”.
The algorithms in this feature, built by our user relevance team, suggest people you don’t currently follow that you may find interesting. The suggestions are based on several factors, including people you follow and the people they follow. You’ll see these suggestions on Twitter.com and the Find People section. If you like a suggestion, click “follow”; if you don’t, click “hide,” and we’ll try not to suggest that user again.
In addition, you will begin to see recommendations for similar users when you view another account’s profile. If you’re interested in a particular user, you might be interested in these other accounts as well.
We will be launching an API so third parties can provide these suggestion features in your favorite desktop, mobile, and web applications, too.Read more at blog.twitter.com

100 million Facebook users (20% of total!) leaked on torrent site

Check your privacy settings if you didn’t do it yet!

100 million Facebook pages leaked on torrent site

A directory containing personal details about more than 100 million Facebook users has surfaced on an Internet file-sharing site.

The 2.8GB torrent was compiled by hacker Ron Bowes of Skull Security, who created a web crawler program that harvested data on users contained in Facebook’s open access directory, which lists all users who haven’t bothered to change their privacy settings to make their pages unavailable to search engines.

Bowes’ directory contains 171 million entries, relating to more than 100 million individual users - more than one in five of Facebook’s recently trumpeted half billion user base.

The file contains user account names and a URL for each user’s profile page, from which details such as addresses, dates of birth or phone numbers can be accessed. Accessing a user’s page from the list will also enable you to click through to friends’ profiles - even if those friends have made themselves non-searchable.

There’s absolutely nothing illegal about what Bowes has done - the information is, after all, publicly available - but perhaps the existence of a stalker’s online black book might finally persuade less security-minded Facebook users to get their arses in gear.

What happens when you install iOS 4.0 on a iPhone 3G [Video] - @svartling, do you agree?

recently wrote about how upgrading my iPhone 3G to iOS 4.0 was one of the dumbest things I’ve done and also recently linked to Lifehacker’s post about downgrading your iPhone 3G.

Sadly, it’s far too true… (although I haven’t yet personally experienced the issue with not being able to accept a call)

Apple should make it clear that you will severely degrade the performance of your iPhone 3G by “upgrading” it.Read more at www.disruptivetelephony.com

Do a check-up to your Twitter account with Profile Checker by TwitterCounter

TwitterCounter just launched Profile Checker, a test to check how complete is your Twitter account and discover recommendations to become more popular and get more followers.

See the check-up results for my Twitter profile “@flapic

I personally don’t agree on the follow/following ratio as they consider it though. A healty Twitter profile should have IMO a ratio close to 1, with as many followers as following, rather than having a higher ratio typical of an announcement tool for marketers and celebrities.

Thought:  Listening to the Caro Emerald album: a new good voice made in Holland, and a relaxing atmosphere. Recommended!

5 creative Foursquare specials

When are such specials coming to Europe too?

Amplifyd from aboutfoursquare.com
The mayor of MarketFair Mall has a reserved parking space
Foursquare checkin and mayor specials are getting more and more popular.
There are plenty of “15% off with your fifth checkin” or “free drink for the mayor”-type offers, but the ones that really stand out are the ones that have applied a little fun and a little creativity.
Here are five that have caught my eye recently:
Reserved parking spot for the mayor at MarketFair Mall in Princeton, NJ.
Escalating rewards for checking in and bringing more friends along at B&O American Brasserie in Baltimore, MD.

Receive 20% off your dinner on Monday when you check in and bring 3 friends, 15% off when you check in and bring 2 friends, 10% off when you check in and bring 1 friend.

Free Black Beauty rides for the mayor of Britt Reid’s Garage at Comic-Con San Diego. The “garage” was set up by Columbia Pictures to promote their film The Green Hornet. The mayor of the garage got a free ride and a free pass to the front of the line.
Free bottle of wine during the week of your birthday — worth your age in dollars — at Restaurant Max in Minneapolis
Free round of shots for the mayor — and five friends — at Front Page News in Atlanta.Read more at aboutfoursquare.com

After “Where the hell is Matt?” meet Mike: “Guy walks across America” [Video] /via @darios

Matt became very popular a couple of years ago with his video dancing around the world, now Mike is becoming viral with this new video showing a walk between New York and San Francisco:

But it’s not so genuine, as shown in the “behind the scenes” video he didn’t really walk all the way:

Here the route they followed, shown on a Google Map: http://bit.ly/brNULW

HTC to use Super LCD screens for Desire and Nexus one after the Summer

We knew this already, now it has been made official.

Amplifyd from www.engadget.com
HTC has seen fit to release a PR blast informing the world of what it already knew: the Desire and Nexus One are getting Super (duper) LCD displays to fill demand that Samsung’s AMOLED division cannot.
CEO Peter Chou has also helpfully explained that the visual experience on the new SLCD screens is “comparable” to AMOLED, but offers better battery performance.
SLCD is the latest generation of LCD technology that offers improved performance from earlier LCD panels including approximately five times better power management. SLCDs also offer an enhanced viewing experience with wider viewing angles that are enabled by Sony’s new VSPEC III™ technology.Read more at www.engadget.com
